Filter Low Paying Ads in Adsense

I had long heard of the need to filter out low paying, or worst, spam ads, but had not gotten my act together to enter them one by one into the Google Adsense’s Competitive Ad Filter.

If you’re running AdSense, you’ve probably seen ads like this: “We have 4 best products for …”, or “Best resources on net for …”.

These advertisers pay very low per click. And if you drop by their sites, they are running Adsense too. How do they do it? Well, they are using your low paying ads to drive their higher paying ads which they run.

Here is a list to get you started with the filtering.

One rule of thumb, “websites not selling any product but using PPC only to draw traffic to their sites are low paying” (via Make Money With Ads)

Before you go overboard with filtering, do some testing.

  • Thanks,
wouldn’t Google just replace those with different but still low paying ads?

  • Very nice input, I shall try it out to improve my adsense revenue. Thanks a lot.

  • Thats actually a good idea to increase your CPC. However I got the idea that Google wont pay you more for more clicks. It seems they dont allow me to earn more money even I get more clicks. Guess they need a certain conversion rate for their customers before they allow me to earn more money.

  • thanks for those links, i will be blocking those sites on my blog.

  • Thanks, i will try it and i hoop can increase my adsense revenue.

  • Don’t just pick up any random list from the web. Test on your own, on your own website. You might just end up blocking targeted ads. So better, experiment. Just my 2 cents.

  • I have found a better way to increase your revenue rather than using simple competitive ad filtering.
If you have an adwords account it will be pretty easy, even if you donot spend anything on adwords.
You can make a research on the adwords keyword tool to find out the high paying keywords suitable to your site i.e. matching your content. Now highlight those keywords by making them bold or emphasising. Now you can expect a greater CPC revenue.
    It really works.

  • Hey guys if you just go into the competitive ad filter in your adsense cpanel then you can simply add your sites competitors urls if you have use adsense on your site and see your competitors urls come up add them to the list for sure!

  • I think everyone should be careful with this method. Doesn’t Google serve the highest paying ads first? I always thought if you filter out the lower paying ads then you could possibly run out of ads and start displaying those crappy Google PSA’s.

I think the better way is to design a website that already has high paying keywords. I designed freediploma.net to host free diploma templates, because educational keywords are almost always over $1 per click. I spent less time on this site than some of my others, but it is more profitable because it is designed around high paying, competitive keywords.

But then again, how many mesothelioma websites can the internet support? ; )
