Build a toolbox of tools

tools

In my last post I talked about sharpening your saw. Using the tool analogy yet again, I want to talk about building a toolbox of tools.

Again the idea is simple.

You can’t use the same tool do all things. While you can certainly hammer in a nut, it is better to tighten it with a spanner.

In the vain, you need different tools to complete a job. To build a table you need a saw to saw the wood, a hammer to nail the word together and a paint brush to paint the finished table.
The same can be said of tools for creating online revenue.

In order to successfully create online revenue one should create a toolbox containing different tools.

Let’s take the example of creating revenue from blog. Something we are very familar with. What are the tools we need?

First, we will need a blog software of course. The tool in my case is WordPress. You may be using other blogging software like Serendipity or even a hosted service like Blogger.

It is important to learn the tool. In this case the blogging software, you need to learn how things like changing the template, inserting ad codes or adding plugins.

Next, you need some sources of revenue. Taking the popular example of Adsense, you will need to learn how to use the system, get the ad codes etc.

If you use other sources of revenue, such as Text Link Ads, each revenue source has a system which need some time to learn and get use to.

Finally you need to have a way to receive revenue. It could be PayPal (referral) or other method of receiving money (like direct bank transfer). Make sure you learn how to use them and also find out the best way of receiving money for you location.

In your toolbox, you might also want to include other tools. These tools could be very helpful when situation arise.

One example is graphical tool. Notice the little graphic that accompanies each post on this site? A program like Photoshop or even Irfanview can help to create nice little graphics to spice up you site.

Pick up different tools as you go along. Build a toolbox filled with different tools. Learn how to use the tools to their fullest effect.
